Scarborough literacy program turns children into authors

In between trash talking each other about who’s better at basketball, newly made friends and elementary school students Adison Trigueno and Josiah Cupid are also coming up with story ideas for their upcoming book.

The two attend different schools; yet once a week they find themselves at the same school-time program at east Scarborough’s picturesque Cedar Ridge Creative Centre. Here, Adison, a Grade 6 student at Willow Park Junior Public School, and Josiah, a Grade 4 student at St. Margaret’s Public School, are two of 16 participants of an eight-week literacy program put on by The Reading Partnership.

The participants, who come from four schools from the Kingston-Galloway/Orton Park neighbourhoods, are working toward publishing a book that will feature each child’s own story. The books will be provided to the families and schools of each participant.
