Carolyne Albert-Garvey

Principal

Empowering children led Carolyne to a long career as an educator. It began 24 years ago as a teacher. Her classroom was always a bit different than most - student-centered and project based. Carolyne purposefully sought teaching positions, where she could have an impact on helping kids get smarter and feel good about themselves. Since 2004, Carolyne has served as a school leader in the District of Columbia. As a school leader, she has been able to hire brilliant educators to offer the absolute best instruction to all students, build partnerships with organizations like the National Gallery of Art to expose students to new ways of thinking, and manage a safe and respectful school where being smart and kind are valued equally. Maury Elementary gained autonomy through its partnership with the DC3 Schools. Therefore, Maury Elementary has more control over the budget and curriculum. In a time when schools only focus on testing, Maury Elementary choose to run a school that includes inquiry learning and social-emotional curriculum.
