About Tsani R.

Tsani is solving the waste problem in Islamic boarding schools by implementing proper sorting and highlighting its economic advantages.

Tsani recognized the detrimental impact of unmanaged waste within her Islamic boarding school and believed that implementing a proper waste management system would create a cleaner, healthier, and more economically beneficial environment. Despite initial resistance, she persevered by researching successful models and developing the Green Circle Sustainability (GCS) initiative. By demonstrating the positive outcomes through a fun, competitive approach to waste sorting and consistently highlighting the environmental and economic advantages, Tsani successfully engaged her peers, leading to the adoption of waste management practices that benefit the entire school community of 3,000 students through a cleaner and greener environment and income generation from recycled materials. More importantly is the change of mindset: Waste was seen dirty and disgusting, but now the school sees waste as valuable, useful, and economically beneficial.
