Kanaya M.

Kanaya grew up in a village in Muara Bungo, the border between Jambi and West Sumatra province. She witnessed many systemic problems like child marriage, gender-based violence, drug trafficking, school dropouts, and many other interlinked problems. She believes that young people need to break free from those and the only way out is through education. Through her initiative, "Edukasi Berjalan" (Education on the Move), she began by gathering and collecting the most talented young people in her region to work together to share inspiration, knowledge, and the motivation to continue learning. She uses stories of world leaders, creative methods like puppetry, as well as interactive forums and mentoring sessions. As she has done these activities since she was 13-years old, she has involved hundreds of volunteers and reached more than 22,000 children and young people in 4 cities / municipalities. They were engaged through offline, online, and advocacy programs.
