Leading Mãos Mágicas, Igor addresses the lack of access to Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) education among children in both public and private schools
Igor is the co-founder of Mãos Mágicas (Magic Hands), a project that brings Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) education to children through games, storytelling, and digital tools. Moved by early experiences of witnessing exclusion — first in school, then in health care — Igor created a playful, inclusive methodology to teach Libras from childhood, believing that language access is the foundation of dignity.
Raised in Itabuna, Bahia, by a single mother, he combines empathy with innovation: Mãos Mágicas is now developing AI tools to support sign language learning, in partnership with researchers from institutions like Harvard. Igor also led civic initiatives like “Student Citizen,” where students created legislative proposals, some now under discussion in the local city council.
Though not currently enrolled in school, he continues to study, teach, and advocate for a Brazil where no one is excluded from communication — andwhere saying “good morning” in Libras can be a revolutionary act of belonging.
