About Hagata
Through Projeto Boyebi, Hagata encourages imagination and the search for ancestry among Black children and youth through Afrofuturist literature
Hagata, is the co-founder of Projeto Boyebi, an initiative that uses Afrofuturist literature to empower Black children in public schools by restoring their right to imagine themselves as protagonists of the future.
Raised in the periphery of Araras (São Paulo) and shaped by the silences of an education system that failed to recognize her racial identity, Hagata found in books, sisterhood, and Afrofuturism a path to resistance and belonging. Born during the pandemic through collective conversations among Black girls, Boyebi organizes reading circles, debates, and book donations, having already impacte over 80 children and increased interest in Black literature by 800% at her school.
Led by a horizontal team of young Black women, the project now aims to scale nationwide, helping others create their own Boyebi nuclei and making imagination a tool of freedom for future generations.
