In Memory of Tino (Anupam) Puri

The entire global Ashoka community deeply, deeply mourns the loss of Tino (Anupam) Puri.

Tino was one of our original founders. He helped develop the Ashoka idea and team when it was still called the “Jefferson Society”. He was a founding and very long-term board member. He was a part of every design discussion, of many of our most difficult decisions and actions, and of innumerable Fellow selection panels.

Tino was a very special and long-term, deep friend of many in the Ashoka community. Whenever we were challenged, Tino was there.

His self-effacing, quiet style almost seemed there to protect others from the extraordinary power of his extremely high intelligence. As Bill (Drayton) commented earlier, “With Tino, one always needed to think broadly and quickly – and one always learned.”

Tino first became involved with Ashoka as a student at Balliol College, Oxford, and then a little later as a member of McKinsey’s New York-based public practice.

He eventually led McKinsey's strategy practice globally, founded and led McKinsey India, and managed McKinsey’s Asian and Latin American programs.

Recently, he served on many major boards, and he was a founder and active member of Ashoka’s World Council. We offer our deepest condolences to his wife, Pin (Rajika) Puri, his family, and his colleagues.
